Orli Ronen - Director of the Local Sustainability Center [1]and Heschel's Deputy Director - just received a letter that the center is to be awarded the Israel Environmental Movement's Green Globe for municipal activity. Each year the environmental movement (under the auspices of the Life and Environment [2] umbrella organization) gives out these awards in a number of categories for initiatives, organizations and individuals who have made significant achievements towards sustainability in Israel. There is also a "Black Globe" given to whoever has done the most to harm Israel's environment. Details on last year's ceremony (with pictures) can be seen here [3]. The awards will be presented at a high-profile ceremony on World Environment Day, June 5.
