Post Doc in Climate Change Impacts Adaptation and Vulnerability Studies
(Req # 22598)
The Berkeley Lab's Earth Sciences Division has an exciting opportunity for
a postdoctoral fellow in the Climate Science Department, researching
Climate Change Adaptation and Vulnerability in California. The goal of the
project is to help the State of California better understand vulnerability
to climate change, potential adaptation responses, and barriers to
adaptation. Research will be focused at the State or Local level, on one
or more sectors, agencies, or locations to be determined according to the
Post Doc's interests. The research should involve social science
approaches as well as natural science and/or computational methods.
As a Post Doc, you will develop a research plan and carry it out, working
with Dr. Margaret Torn and, as relevant, other UC Berkeley faculty,
Berkeley Lab staff, and Susanne Moser Research & Consulting. It is
important to be able to work independently and to interact with State
Agency staff and other researchers working on vulnerability and adaptation
in California. There are some reporting deliverables to the California
Energy Commission but the main focus of the work, likely a report for the
state or manuscript, is negotiable. The post doc will have option of
co-leading a seminar on climate change impacts and adaptation at UC
Berkeley.
We are looking for a recent Ph.D. with an interdisciplinary background in
some combination of social sciences, environmental analysis, economics,
policy, climate science, and/or a specific sector. You should have good
quantitative and computer skills, and excellent writing and communication
skills.
Notes
This is a one-year appointment. We have one-year, full-time equivalent of
funding. Salary is $5130/month + benefits. Should be available to start by
July, 2009. Review of applications will begin March 1, 2009 and continue
until position is filled.
