The transition to a sustainable energy future is happening now! From groundbreaking agrivoltaics strategies to smart demand management solutions and the first-ever Climate Assembly in Eilat, our latest research highlights the policies, technologies, and collaborations shaping Israel’s energy landscape.
Conducted by the NZO team, our research explores innovative solutions at the intersection of renewable energy and sustainability.
The agrivoltaics studies in two separate policy papers highlight the potential of integrating solar energy with agriculture to enhance food security, energy resilience, and climate adaptation. The first paper – Global Policy Strategies for Advancing Agrivoltaic Projects examines successful global policy strategies that support agrivoltaic projects through incentives and regulations, demonstrating how this approach can benefit farmers, energy producers, and the environment. The second paper – Agrivoltaics in Israel- Current Status and Policy Recommendations focuses on Israel’s unique opportunity to lead in agrivoltaics, analyzing its current state, regulatory challenges, and key recommendations for scaling up implementation. With the right policies and collaboration, agrivoltaics can revolutionize land use and accelerate Israel’s transition to a sustainable future.
Meanwhile, our policy paper on Demand Management titled – Demand Management in Israel’s Residential Sector as a Tool for Reducing Peak Load on the National Electricity Grid also led by the NZO team, addresses the growing challenges of Israel’s electricity grid amid rising demand, electrification, and climate change. This research explores smart energy use strategies that help stabilize the grid, prevent blackouts, and improve renewable integration. By empowering consumers and implementing targeted incentives, Israel can build a more stable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy system.
Adding to this momentum, the first-ever Climate Assembly in Eilat, led by the Heschel Centers’ Democracy 3.0 Lab for Citizens’ Assemblies marked a historic milestone in public engagement. Bringing together diverse stakeholders, the assembly fostered deep discussions on climate solutions and policy recommendations for a more resilient future of Eilat including Sustainable Urban Planning, Green Building, Renewable Energy and Efficiency, Eco-Friendly and Accessible Transportation, Marine and Coastal Protection, Environmental Education and Community Action, Policy, Enforcement and Transparency – demonstrating the power of participatory democracy in shaping Israel’s energy and climate policies. The response of the participants as well as the municipality was heartwarming, and we are already hearing them say they would like to conduct more assemblies in the near future.
